I know nothing about a forklift, except that I need one. Where do I start?

The first point of consideration is: what do you want the forklift to do? What is the heaviest weight you will be lifting? How high do you want to lift? What type of surfaces will you be running on? What are your clearance restrictions with doorways, hallways, aisles etc…?

What do I do if I have an emergency breakdown with a rental unit at any time of the day or night?  Who do I call?

Call (417)862-7411 immediately and a technician can be dispatched 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

If I have a unit out on long term rent, how often should it be serviced?

A forklift should be serviced every 250 hours of use. Notify United Machinery each 250 hour increment.

Do my operators need to wear their seatbelts?

Yes, the operator must wear the restraint system available to them on that unit.

How do I determine proper lift capacity for my job?

In determining the capacity that you need, keep in mind that typically, forklifts are rated on a 24” load center. For example, a forklift rated at 5000 lbs. will lift a maximum of 5000 lbs. at a 24” load center. As the forks rise, the capacity goes down. Also, as the load moves away from the mast of the forklift, the capacity drops off quickly. The width of a load affects the capacity. The height of a load is measured at the forks. Refer to the units’ capacity plate for exact capacities or call (417)862-7411 to answer any questions.
